In the beginning

Our working relationship with RSPCA began in 2009 following an introduction from photographer James Walshe. Initially we focused on the design and delivery of their Annual Report. We quickly established a rapport with other teams within the organisation, including the retail and marketing department. Looking to attract a younger audience, RSPCA wanted a creative partner who could challenge conventions and put forward fresh alternatives – so we did just that!

Working closely with the marketing department, we provided creative direction and advice on a wide range of projects ranging from publication and catalogue design, campaign identities and collateral, merchandise with custom illustrations, diaries, calendars, fundraising cards and event materials. Real animals were featured in the majority of the projects, so our animal wrangling skills were quickly honed. With the aid of a treat or tennis ball, and plenty of patience, you can achieve big things!

Broadening our skills

As RSPCA’s appetite grew for new and different ideas, we were able to experiment with ideas for fundraising merchandise that would sell well to their target market. This led us to discover that Van could illustrate! She created the cutest, quirkiest little creatures which appeared on everything, from tea towels to PJ’s, cups, bowls, umbrellas, towels and thongs! Out of a crucial need for new fundraising ideas, ‘Freedom Gift cards’ emerged – enabling people to give gifts of charity to animals who needed it most.

Over 6 years, RSPCA have put their trust in us to deliver their Annual Report. The report is used not only as a reporting tool, but  also as a means of appealing for support and showcasing their campaigns and achievements. For six consecutive years, we planned, designed and art directed a vibrant, engaging and informative document that has successfully enabled the organisation to achieve these goals. The inspiring stories and incredible characters we met along the way still brings a smile to our faces.
